It has apparently been about three years since Meiko, a singer/songwriter who is part Japanese and raised in Georgia and now lives in Los Angeles, have performed at Jammin Java.  She now returns back to a more lively Jammin Java with a full band to promote her new sophomore album called "The Bright Side" released earlier this Summer.  Although, she has performed at Jammin Java before, it was my first time seeing Meiko perform live and in person. Meiko has released a total of two albums where her first album is titled same as her name, "Meiko".  Both of her album releases has been extremely successful where they have been spotted in the top 30's heatseekers Billboard chart.  Her latest album did even better and debuted at #4 in the same Billboard charts.  Her music could also be heard in many television shows such as Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, and many more.

Meiko has always been a name that my friends have always brought up.  Before the show, I've only heard a few songs by her.  It wasn't until June that I found out that she was going to be at Jammin Java.  Mei, the Jammin Java Door Gal, gave me a heads up, so proper thanks for her for letting me in advance.  I bought tickets and her albums just after I got the notice that Meiko was coming to town.

This show with Meiko was my first show at Jammin Java since my work moved from DC to Tysons Corner in Northern Virginia.  Traffic is a bit worse, but it truly is more convenient for me to commute to the venue after work.  It is only ten minutes away which includes traffic.  I left work around 5:40pm and arrived at the venue around 5:50pm.  I thought I was really early but there was already about eight to ten people already waiting in the front lobby.  Doors opened about 6:30pm, and I power walked to get a good seat.  That evening's seating arrangement are rectangle tables with chairs for the front and followed with chairs arranged horizontally in the back.  Since I was able to get a table, I thought I'd get myself a snack before the show and got a couple of pretzels.  I started to set up my camcorder tripod for video recording.

The opening act, Buddy, started around 7:00pm and he performed a small handful of songs to warm up the crowd.  He finished his set about half an hour left and Meiko takes the stage around 8:00pm.  She comes out to a roaring and cheering crowd welcoming her back to Jammin Java.  Meiko performs a total of a dozen songs and come back for an encore performance.  She played songs from both her first album as well as her recently released album.  When her set started, I was blown away how great she sounded live and with a full band.  It sounded even better than on CD.  Even though she had a full band, she performed an acoustic solo set for several songs.  I was so glad I decided to come and watch her perform live.  It's definitely worth the money to hear her in person.  Her voice was just very empowering and just incredible.  To be honest, I bought her albums months ago in preparation for the meet and greet but never really had a chance to hear her whole albums.  After hearing her live though, I see myself wanting to hear more and love her music even more. I was able to shoot the whole show on video, and you can view it by either clicking on the links below to view them individually or by clicking on the embedded video to watch Meiko's show in its entirety.

After the show, I was able to get a copy of Meiko's set list as a souvenir.  I then packed up and went to line up for the meet and greet line to see Meiko. I also got an extra "The Bright Side" album for fellow Digbyholic Lana since she wasn't able to come to see the show.  I was able to get the album signed for her.  The line moved relatively quickly for a meet and greet.  By the time I reached the front to meet Meiko, I had my flash on my camera set-up as well as got all the CDs out ready for her to sign them.  I told her it was my first time seeing her perform live and it was thanks to all my friends in Los Angeles and sister who really liked her music to get me to go.  I then asked her if for a picture with her before heading out.  What a great night with Meiko at Jammin Java! I hope she returns again, so that I can see her perform again. For those who like her music definitely needs to see her perform live!

I also took a lot of pictures at the show, and it can be seen below by clicking on the collage below, or the links that will re-direct everyone to either my photography Facebook page or my photography homepage.
